Foreign Language Vocabulary Acquisition and Retention in Print Text vs. Digital Media Environments

In the context of very current trends in digital language education generally supported by governments and educational institutions, it seems necessary to evaluate efficiency these tools from various points psycholinguistics applied linguistics, mostly when comes learning a foreign/second (L2). Therefore, this paper aims vocabulary retention L2 using print text contrast with media. The research was conducted among 122 participants who were university students divided into two groups learn 60 new phrasal verbs; one group them standard text, other same displayed annotated on their devices. There memory tests after four weeks studying sets verbs, i.e., 15 verbs week, another test month students’ given time. results clearly show slight but clear discrepancy favor both performed. findings study suggest that can retain better conditions where they have access printed if make notes, highlight or write translation native language. However, should be verified perspectives as well obtain more reliable data.
